With 28 years of leadership experience in Higher Education, Including the last eight years in Data, Analytics, and Institutional Research, Jason F. Simon, Ph.D. believes in the transformational power of higher education data to improve student and institutional outcomes at the Department, Division, and Institutional levels. Jason specializes in helping institutions transform data landscapes, future-proofing approaches to work, and examining analytical tools and data science requirements. In his current tenure he has lead his team to fundamentally re-architect the University of North Texas data and analytic ecosystem. Jason and his team of 13 amazing practitioners work earned a CIO 100 award for innovation in 2019.
Jason is a published author on future-proofing Higher Education and Institutional Research and a frequent speaker/facilitator. Jason has delivered over 100 conference presentations and has served as a keynote speaker for several international higher education gatherings including a 2022 speaking engagement with the Canadian Institutional Research Professionals Association (CIRPA) focused on equity in analytics. Most recently, Jason served as co-editor for a Wiley Press New Directions in Institutional Research journal on the changing nature of institutional research. Jason was also a contributing author on the 2019 Statement on Analytics “Analytics Can Save Higher Education. Really.” Jointly produced by EDUCAUSE, AIR, & NACUBO. Jason currently serves as a faculty member for the Association of Institutional Research in its inaugural LEADS program consisting of a cohort of 80+ practitioners looking to expand their professional capabilities. Finally, Jason is a member of the Educause Analytics Advisory Board and was a contributing author to both the Educause Horizon Report on Data and Analytics and most recently a contributing author for the Best Practices in Data Governance Horizon Report (to be published in early Spring 2023). Jason is currently also serving as a Primary Investigator on a forthcoming study of Tier 1 Research Hispanic Serving Institutions data, analytic, and governance practices.
