Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing how schools teach, learn, and operate, while also introducing new cybersecurity and privacy challenges. At the same time, CISA's new August 2026 K-12 Cybersecurity Foundations guidance provides districts with a practical roadmap for protecting student data, strengthening cyber resilience, improving staff awareness, and developing long-term cybersecurity strategies.
In this session, we'll begin with a brief look at the K-12 technology and cybersecurity trends districts are facing today, including the rapid adoption of AI, increasing cyber threats, growing privacy concerns, and ongoing resource constraints. We'll then examine the key takeaways from CISA's new K-12 guidance and discuss how district leaders can apply those recommendations to AI initiatives involving students, staff, and school operations.
